June is Pride Month, which has many straight people wondering how they can best show their support. There have been many articles put out detailing ways to be a better ally, while avoiding the trap of virtue signaling. However, most of these are simply feel-good reads that contain things that any non-bigoted person already does. If you really want to show your support for the LGBTQIA+ community, you’re going to have to go out of your comfort zone.
To truly become an ally of the gay community, you need to have a gay experience. To put it bluntly, have gay sex. There is nothing inherently gay or weird about having sex with someone of the same sex. It is only gay if you want it to be. Really, refusing to try gay sex is a form of homophobia. It’s just like trying a new food, are you scared that you might like it?
So what are you waiting for? Worst case scenario, you are now able to look at the issues from a more involved viewpoint, making you a better ally. And who knows, maybe you’ll end up joining the LGBTQIA+ community in full!
