Washington, DC - After house GOP leaders held an emergency conference meeting today, US Congress has voted to repeal Obamacare. This comes days after House republicans planned to revoke the independence of the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE). The plan was condemned by president-elect Donald Trump in a series of tweets.
Under Obamacare, senior citizens pay less for Medicare coverage and for their prescription drugs, many Americans have received free contraceptives, mammograms, colonoscopies, and cholesterol tests, and small business owners with older and sicker workers have not been slapped with super-high premiums.
About 24 million Americans are now left without secure health insurance. Due to the Obamacare repeal, there is no longer a fee if you are uninsured, so those affected will not be penalized. Insurance companies are also offering transfer plans for those now left uninsured due to Obamacare.
Response from government leaders has been mostly positive. Representative Jeff Fortenberry (R) of Nebraska commented “Today, America won. We’re no longer under the socialist rule of Obama. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished.”
